Our Story
The New Mexico Early Childhood Learning Department at the Central Region Educational Cooperative (CREC) is dedicated to supporting high-quality coaching and professional learning to inspire educators across New Mexico. Through funding from the Early Childhood Education and Care Department, we provide Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) to approximately 628 preschool educators in both school-based and community based classrooms, these include NM PreK, Special Education 619 IDEA, Title I, and district grantee Head Start funded preschool classrooms. A total of 921 teachers receive Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) either from one of our 36 CREC Early Childhood Instructional Coaches or one of the 19 Internal District Early Childhood Instructional Coaches.
Practice-Based Coaching is a professional development strategy that uses a cyclical process to support teachers’ use of effective teaching practices. PBC involves the following components:
-
Collaborative partnerships between coaches and teachers
-
Shared goals and action planning based on teachers’ needs and interests
-
Focused observation of teachers’ implementation of practices through video capture
-
Reflection and feedback to promote teachers’ learning and improvement
